Champions of Cyclesport testimonials

"Action’s Champions of Cyclesport dinner is one of those rare opportunities to catch up with your cycling heroes when the racing season is over and they are away from the pressures of the peloton and the track, away from the demands of their team sponsors and team principal, and they come along to this dinner in support of a great cause: ready to chat about their season, sign autographs and pose for photos with a room full of die-hard cycling fans in their best evening wear.

At the 2011 dinner, one friend successfully bid for a framed Tour de France white jersey, signed by Geraint Thomas. Others chatted with David Millar about his role as road captain in the recent World Road Race in Copenhagen and asked Ben Swift about his first ride on the Tour. I overcame my usual British reserve and asked Mark Cavendish if he’d have his photo taken with me, and it seemed as though the rest of the room did likewise. Indeed, he consented to each and every request with grace and good humour.

Yes, as you’d expect, everything was impeccably organised, the food was delicious, the auction lots were generous and the entertainment was spectacular. However, it was the presence of our Great British cycling champions, past and present, who gave of themselves so graciously and generously, that made this event such a memorable, spectacular evening.” Graham McGregor Smith
