Get on your bike in 2008
It will soon be time to start making New Year’s Resolutions. Many of us will be looking to get fit in 2008. Cycling is a great way to do this and setting yourself a challenge can be a great motivator – so why not sign up for one of our fundraising bike rides? We have events across the UK and worldwide, with routes to suit all abilities and support from our events team.
Dining with Davina
Charity supporter Davina McCall hosted a ladies’ lunch in Southampton. Over 200 guests attended the event, which raised more than £10,000 for our Touching Tiny Lives fundraising appeal.
Protecting children from meningitis
Meningitis and septicaemia strike fear into the hearts of most parents. Both infections primarily strike in childhood and can kill in hours, or result in devastating disability. Action Medical Research has awarded Dr Manish Sadarangani a grant of £161,296 to fund a three-year study into a possible new type of vaccine.
Rallying support for tiny lives
Our Touching Tiny Lives campaign has helped fund 30 high-quality medical research projects into pregnancy complications and premature birth. But we want to do more. Currently, little is known about why babies are born too soon. We believe medical research is crucial to find answers, and are calling on Government to support this work. We have been meeting MPs from across the political spectrum to talk about this national issue. So far 76 MPs have signed an Early Day Motion calling on the Government to do more to fund research. Watch this space!
