You start the Ride either in Bristol or Bath. Before setting off you must check-in at the start to confirm that you are taking part. Bristol check-in takes place at Millenium Square in Bristol 6.00am — 7.30am and in Bath at The Guildhall, High Street 6.30am — 8.00am. Riders intending to cycle at a more gentle pace should start as early as possible. Detailed instructions of the route will be given out at ride registration and will be available to download on the riders forum when you enter.
The official Ride route is marked with yellow ‘Action 100’ signs. If you don’t complete the Ride for any reason, you must inform a marshal or call control and accept a lift to the finish.
Water and soft drinks are provided free of charge along the route. At check-in you will be given a lunch voucher for use at the lunch stop in Theale. Food and drink can also be purchased from the Clubhouse at Chobham Rugby Club when you finish.
We recommend that all riders wear an approved cycling helmet and ask that you co-operate with instructions given by ride marshals. St John Ambulance, Garys Bikes bike mechanics and mobile marshals patrol the route. If your bike breaks down, Gary's bikes will repair your bike but parts must be paid for. Riders should ensure that their bikes are in good condition BEFORE the long ride.
If you live in Bristol, contact Gary Harris who runs Gary's Bikes and he will provide you with a discounted bike service to make sure your bike is full prepared for the ride. Find him on 07816 515 082 or on 0117 966 1590
The Ride ends at Chobham Rugby Club where you are required to check-in on arrival. Here you receive your certificate of completion and a medal of achievement in recognition of your efforts. Please then take your bike to be loaded on the lorry for safe return. You can arrange to meet friends and family at the club to celebrate together. Showers are available at a charge of £1.00.
Return transport for you and your bike is available but must be booked in advance. You will be given a pair of identical security discs. You keep one disc yourself and attach the other disc to your bike for return transport to Bath or Bristol. Your bike is available at pick-up points early the following morning in Bath and Bristol. We only release bicycles in return for the other security disc you provide.
Coaches providing return transport for riders are available from mid afternoon until 7.00pm on the day of the Ride. The drop off points are Temple Meads Station in Bristol and the Orange Grove in Bath.
We ask that you raise a minimum of £25, however this years average was £146 per rider, which is a fabulous achievement! Please make every effort to raise at least the minimum sponsorship or make a minimum donation for this amount. All sponsorship monies and forms must be sent to the Registration Officer, Roy Clark by 28th September 2007.
Make good use of Action Medical Research’s online sponsorship system. Create your own fundraising account, and invite friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you online, safely and securely!
We recommend that you increase your training gradually and follow a normal balanced diet in preparation for the Ride. A training programme and diet sheet will be sent to you in your Ride pack, after you register. Remember you don’t need to buy any specialist equipment to take part in the Ride. Just ensure you wear comfortable clothing, your bike is in good working order and you have spare tools in case of a puncture.
Please ensure that you have adequate personal insurance to take part in the ride and have your bike and all personal effects insured for loss or damage. You must understand that you take part in this event at your own risk. You absolve Action Medical Research from responsibility for any injury incurred or loss sustained to property through your participation in this event, unless caused through the negligence of Action Medical Research.
Why not join together with friends, family or work colleagues and enter a team in the ride? The top team raising the most sponsorship overall will win the Action 100 Team Trophy which would be a great accolade for your company or sports club.
