Brave the Beacons

Saturday 13th September 2008

Action Medical Research is offering you the chance to take part in our first ever Brave the Beacons challenge.

The Brecon Beacons National Park, situated in mid-Wales, spans over 1,300 square kilometres and its fabulous scenery is just calling out for people like you to run, trek, mountain bike and canoe across it, over it, through it, and up and down it.Brecon Beacons Team Event Canoeing

Now is your chance to take part in this one-day multi activity event in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Your team of four will pit their wits and fitness as you try and find your way there!

This is no ordinary challenge; your team chooses to complete the route in their own way in order to win. Your team will navigate their way by orienteering, mountain biking, canoeing, trekking, running, and/or climbing/abseiling to complete 6 stages of the challenge. The aim is to do it as quickly as possible but also collect as many points as possible! Each stage of the event has a certain amount of points attached to it by going through marked checkpoints but there are also additional check points to gain further points. To gain these, your team will have to work much harder in terms of their choice of activity or the distance they travel, so your team therefore will need to decide if they take the easier route, pick up a low number of check points, but easily complete in the time allocated for that stage, or, if they think they are fast enough and fit enough, go for the extra points, not incur time penalties and still be strong enough for later stages.

The result? A timed, points scoring, multi-activity event for all levels of ability!

This event is a great way for you to explore this beautiful Welsh National Park and push yourself to the limits. So will you choose to go the direct way or the indirect way?Brecon Beacons Team Event Walking

After you have 'Braved the Beacons' you will have a well deserved celebration evening meal at the 2004 and 2005 Welsh pub of the year – The Usk Inn in Talybont, where we will announce the winners and other well earned awards.

To be part of this unique event all you need to do is find yourself a team of 4 and get that adrenalin pumping. All we ask is that you pledge to raise a minimum of £1500 in sponsorship. We will support you with your training and fundraising and help make your experience truly memorable.
