Chiltern Challenge

Picture of two cyclists wearing Action Medical Research tops posing for a photo at the end of Castle Ride 2005New for 2008, the Chiltern Challenge 100 bike ride will be a stunning ride through the Chiltern hills. Cyclists will have a choice of 2 circular routes.

The first route of 100 miles will lead the rider through some of the most picturesque countryside in the UK. The shorter second route of 100km (62.5 miles) is easier for the more novice or less ambitious rider.

Whichever route you choose, you can expect a great day out. Both routes are well signposted with regular check points and refreshments. There will be mechanical and first aid support throughout.

Why it's so important to help raise funds for Action Medical Research

We are a national medical research charity dedicated to preventing and treating disease and disability by funding vital medical research into a range of conditions. As an organisation we have:

  • made a major contribution to the British polio vaccine
  • were responsible for much of the testing of the rubella (German measles) vaccine
  • pioneered hip replacement surgery (the Charnley hip)
  • introduced the medical application of ultrasound
  • discovered the importance of folic acid in the prevention of spina bifida
  • contributed to the development of monitoring systems routinely used on the brain following traumatic injury
