Sail the Solent
Race around the Isle of Wight
Learn to sail in one day with a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualified instructor before taking part in a 60-mile race around the Isle of Wight and earn your RYA Start Sailing certificate.
Your home for this weekend challenge will be onboard a 40-foot yacht. You will spend Saturday learning the basics of sailing, from raising the main sail, to taking the helm – your skipper will show you the ropes.
You will learn how to sail in just one day before taking part in our mini-regatta race around the beautiful Isle of Wight. This classic race has been undertaken by most of the great sailors of our time, this is your chance to join their ranks and take on the elements in a fun, exhilarating challenge.
The adventure begins on Friday 15 October 2010 when you plus five other crew mates will meet in Gosport where you will be introduced to your skipper and make yourself at home on board your yacht for the weekend. Your professional skipper will make sure you learn all aspects of sailing from understanding the wind, setting the sails and taking the helm.
Sunday is race day! You and your fellow crew-mates will take charge of the yacht (under the watchful eye of your skipper!) and will make all of the tactical and sailing decisions in order to be the fastest team around the Isle of Wight.
Sailing is all about team work, skill and most of all having fun. So why not challenge your friends or colleagues to a race? The champagne finish, celebration meal and prizes for the winners ensure that all your efforts are rewarded!
All you need is £99 to register and a commitment to raising £750 for Action Medical Research. You can join us as an individual or as a team. Each yacht can accommodate six participants but you and your friends can have more than one vessel if you have a larger group wishing to take part.
