On a mountain ridge, high above the Urubamba River, lie the ruins of Machu Picchu, once the seat of power for the ancient empire of the Incas. Trek to Machu Picchu; the lost city of the Incas on the 100th anniversary of its discovery. Register today for just £99.
Over five days, we’ll take you on the journey of a lifetime to see this inspirational site. Our trek follows a rarely used Inca highway, far from the beaten track and a beautiful route through the Peruvian Andes. You’ll walk through lush valleys, past tranquil mountain lakes and over high passes with breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains.
It is a well kept secret and off the main tourist track, the Inca Trail, so offers you the chance to interact with the small village communities we pass, giving you a real insight into traditional Peruvian life.
Our challenge takes us up to our hightest point of 4800m, Ankascocha pass, and we end our trek tracing the footprints of the Inca’s to the lost city of Machu Picchu; Peru’s most famous Inca ruin, which had been abandoned to the forest for over 500 years until it was re-discovered in 1911 by American historian Hiram Bingham where, we will be privileged to visit on this, the 100th Anniversary of the discovery.
There is plenty of time built in to this tip to acclimatise to the altitude. You will have a day to explore in Cusco, capital of the Inca Empire and the oldest inhabited city in the world.
While the trail is not technically difficult, sturdy boots, strong legs and good cardiovascular fitness are essential. Porters will carry all of our equipment so you will only need to carry a day pack with you. You will be fully supported in the run-up to this challenge; you will receive a comprehensive training guide when you register, along with a kit list and lots of fundraising ideas. We will ensure that you are fully prepared for this experience of a lifetime.
To join us for this challenging and rewarding trek we require a non-refundable registration fee of £99 plus your commitment to raise a minimum of £3,000 in sponsorship.
