Plaza de Armaz in Cuzco - we spend 2 days here, acclimatising to the altitude before we set off on the trail.

The training walk takes us to Sacsayhuaman, an ancient ruin near Cusco.

Sitting at 4,200m above sea level, Dead Woman's Pass is the highest climb we conquer on the trail.


On the evening of Day 6 we stay at a hostel called Winaywayna. Here there is an opportunity to let your hair down with the local DJ and friendly bar making sure you celebrate - Inca style!

Walk through the Sungate (Inti Punku) early on the morning of Day 7 - through these walls a magnificent view of Machu Picchu awaits!

A short trek down from the Sungate reveals the classic view of Machu Picchu - lots of photo opportunities here!
