How to run for Action Medical Research in 2011

1. Apply for a guaranteed place with Action Medical Research
   Whether you have applied for a place in the Virgin London Marathon ballot or not you can apply for a guaranteed place to run with Action Medical Research. Just complete our online registration form and we will advise you if we can offer you a place. You will need to pay a £50 non-refundable deposit upon accepting our offer and agree to raise a minimum sponsorship of £1750.
   
   Don’t wait until the ballot is announced to apply and risk missing out. If we offer you a place we will keep you on the reserve list and if you are unsuccessful in the ballot you will be guaranteed a place with us.
2. Ballot place
   If you applied for the ballot and are one of the lucky ones who succeeds in getting a guaranteed place to run you can still join the Action Medical Research team and take advantage of our fantastic support outlined below. Just email us at running@action.org.uk.

As part of the Take Action team you will receive excellent support before, during and after the race. We will provide you with:

• a training guide written by former London Marathon WINNER Mike Gratton
• motivating newsletters packed full of advice
• dedicated members of staff who can help answer any questions or worries you have
• high-quality branded wicking running vest
• access to fundraising materials to make hitting that target easier
• an online sponsorship account that you can personalise with photos and mini-blogs
• a discussion forum so you can talk to your fellow runners
• post-race reception with food, drink, showers and masseurs
• fundraising incentives including the chance to win Polar Running Watches and iPods
• four noisy cheering parties to help you round the course!
• The chance to run as our mascot, Paddington, for an added challenge!

Why run for Action Medical Research

By taking part in the Virgin London Marathon and raising funds for Action Medical Research you will be helping us stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability.

Our work offers hope to the many thousands of families across the UK who are dealing with the trauma of a baby born too early, striving to support a child affected by disability, or facing the challenge of caring for a child with a rare and devastating disease for which there is no cure.

We know that medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded.
Unlike many research charities Action Medical Research relies entirely on donations. We cannot fund new medical breakthroughs without your help.
