More than 500 schools and children’s groups across the UK have taken part in our tenth annual Bring Your Bear fundraising event.
Supported this year by TV personality Zoe Ball, nearly £70,000 has already been raised, with more yet to come – thank you to everyone who has taken part, you’re all absolutely ‘bear-illiant’!
Bring Your Bear is a fun and simple concept. Schools allow children to bring a teddy bear or favourite cuddly toy to class for the day in return for a £1 donation. Many chose to go that extra mile and make a real occasion of it, and we’ve seen some fantastic, creative fundraising ideas this year, from the traditional Teddy Bear’s picnic, to Teddy Trains and a ‘Ted-apault’ (no bears were harmed!). We also supply educational materials so that youngsters can see how the money raised will be used to support our Touching Tiny Lives campaign and help ensure more babies have the best possible start in life.
Celebrate Paddington’s 50th in 2008
Bring Your Bear marks the birthday of our lovable furry fundraiser, Paddington, and 2008’s Bring Your Bear event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Paddington book, ‘A Bear called Paddington’, written by Michael Bond, and we hope even more children – and adults too – will join us for a bumper birthday celebration to raise even more money for Paddington’s favourite charity. Paddington became our fundraising mascot in 1976, and we will be marking his half century in style.
