Britain’s most loveable bear calls for revival of great pastime

1st March 2001

-Paddington calls for Elevenses to make a return to the British way of life-

Paddington Bear - British icon, vast consumer of marmalade and mascot of leading medical charity Action Research - is calling for the revival of Elevenses as National Marmalade Day approaches on the 2nd March.

In an era that has seen the demise of the red telephone box, Carry On films and Wembley Stadium, one of Britain’s most famous bears is hoping to revive the Great British tradition of Elevenses - a pastime that he enjoys regularly with his friend Mr Gruber.

Everyday Paddington has elevenses with Mr Gruber in his antique shop in the Portobello Road - their elevenses consists of buns and cocoa. Of course, Paddington always has a marmalade sandwich handy should he be particularly peckish!

Paddington feels that this Great British tradition should be revived - especially if it benefits his favourite charity Action Research. Both Paddington and the charity are planning a mass-revival of the pastime that will also raise money to fund more ground breaking medical research.

The final word should go to a spokesperson from Paddington & Co: “National Marmalade Day is a very significant day in Paddington’s calendar and a fine time to reintroduce the notion of Elevenses to the Great British public. Paddington is a resourceful bear and this won’t be the last time that you hear of his intention to revive one of his favourite pastimes!”
