20th March 2008
If you’ve over-indulged this Easter, now is the perfect time to set yourself a fitness challenge, start training and get into shape for the summer - and support a great cause at the same time.
National health charity Action Medical Research is looking for riders - from the keenest enthusiasts to amateur pedallers - to join its flagship London to Paris bike ride this summer (23 - 27 July). This year’s event aims to be their biggest yet, with 450 cyclists arriving in the French capital in time for participants to watch the end of the Tour de France.
In four days you will cover around 300 miles and with each pedal stroke you take you will be raising vital funds for charity, and a getting little closer to a glass of champagne under the Eiffel Tower.
Oly Watts, event organiser, said: “Now is the ideal time to start getting in shape for the summer. Action Medical Research aims to create a healthier future for everyone by funding high-quality medical research projects, but leading a healthy lifestyle is also important. Cycling is a great way to improve your fitness, increase your strength and manage your weight.
“The London to Paris ride always has a fantastic atmosphere en-route and to finish off by riding down the Champs Elysees with 450 fellow cyclists before the Tour de France finishes there the following day is an experience not to be missed.”
There are three routes to choose from and the charity is currently offering a spring discount of 25% on registration - £74.25 instead of the usual £99.
