Action Medical Research Enewsletter - April 2010

Ironing out a dietary issue

Action Medical Research has joined forces with fellow charity WellChild to fund a project to develop a new dietary iron supplement for children. It is hoped that the work, being undertaken by the MRC Collaborative Centre for Human Nutrition Research in Cambridge, will help prevent iron deficiency anaemia in children.

Understanding peanut allergy

The charity is supporting research at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and Kings College, London, which is investigating the causes of peanut allergy by examining early exposure to low levels of peanut and links to a gene that causes eczema in children.

Walk for Tiny Lives

This summer sees the launch of our new series of sponsored walks aimed at families. Walk for Tiny Lives offers a chance for the whole family, from tiny tots to grandparents, to raise funds for research into premature birth. For details visit the Walk for Tiny Lives website.

UK End 2 End – it’s Britain on a bike

Follow in the tracks of Sport Relief celebs, including Action Medical Research supporter Davina McCall, and see Britain at her best, up close and personal, from the saddle of a bicycle. We’ll take you almost 1,000 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats over nine days between 22 and 30 May. You’ll average 100 miles a day and spend your nights in a mobile tented village complete with a few luxuries. For details visit the UK End 2 End page.
