I was part of a 6 girl crew called 'Here come the girls', with a very brave skipper Andy Murry!!! We spent 4 days on a 37ft yatch (where we got to know each other very well!!). We spent the whole of Saturday being trianed up on how to handle the yatch, there were soooo many ropes!! And you would not believe how many different names there are for the position of the sail, in the end we came up with out own names: clothes horse, clothes reech, bean, broad and runner (cant remember the real names!!!). We tacked, we goosed, we even wenched, and it was the most fun we've ever had!!! On race day, we were up at 6am, you weren't allowed to shower, but by then we didnt care because it was bloomin' cold!! We had a few last minute practise tacks and we made our way to the start line. The beep sounded and we were off, we had an absolutly brilliant day, we had fun, we had laughter, we had throwing up and we even had a few hairy moments, but in under 8 hours of sailing from Cows back round to Cows, we crossed the finish line screaming with excitment!! There was 6 yatchs racing on the day and Sunday evening we all had dinner together with our skippers, Suzy and the Action Medical Research team, where they held a presentation for all the teams.....and where they handed us our trophys for WINNING the race and as you can probably imagine, screaming like a bunch of wild women!!! I would recommend this sailing weekend to everyone, we had a brilliant time, we raised thousands of pounds for a brilliant charity thats helps young children and babies! I'd like to say a big 'THANK YOU' to Suzy and the Action Medical Research team for making it happen, and an extre big 'THANK YOU' to Andy for putting up with 6 crazy girls!!!! "Thank you!"
Tell us what you thought of Sail the Solent so that we can improve our service for future years.
