Hi,
Thanks for visiting our sponsorship page.  Firstly let’s introduce the team, we are:

  • Aled Davies (Team Captain)
  • James Jones
  • Karl Lovett
  • Steve Kell

At some point in our lives we have a) owned a push bike, b) know what a canoe is and possibly been on one before and c) seen plenty of mountains being from North Wales and Shropshire! Given what the challenge is, this really does put us in “A League of Our Own”!

The Challenge
As a team, we are entering the grueling event that is “Race the Sun 2012”.  The challenge is to cycle 50 miles (80kms), hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain - Helvellyn at 3,116ft (950m) - and canoe a 2.5 mile (4kms) course on Thirlmere.  This delightful task starts at sunrise and the aim is to complete the course before sunset (although our personal (very ambitious!) aim is 10 hours!)

Why???

Given our previous experience in the various elements of this challenge (none!) you may be wondering why on earth we would be brave (or daft) enough to take this on.  Well, the reason is to raise as much funds as possible for Action Medical Research, a great children's charity dedicated to improving the health of babies and children in the UK.
For almost 60 years the charity has been behind numerous breakthroughs such as the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy, and more recently the fetal heart rate monitor a new state-of-the-art device that could help save thousands of at-risk babies.
Action Medical Research relies entirely on donations to fund a range of research projects that address serious childhood conditions and improve quality of life for children with disabilities.
The charity also supports research to reduce premature birth, prevent pregnancy complications that threaten babies' lives, and find the best ways to care for sick and vulnerable babies.

So thanks again for taking the time to visit and read through our page, and all that is left is to say is that we would be ever so grateful for a kind donation towards this wonderful cause, no amount is too little. Please also tick the Gift Aid box if you are a UK tax payer as the UK Government will contribute an additional 25% on the money that we have raised.

Thanks for your support!
