In order to help raise funds for Action Medical Research, the Avis Sports and Social Club (SSC) have decided to take on two of the charity's most difficult challenges. On the 27th June, three teams will compete in the first ever Ride24 challenge, a Le Mans style cycle endurance race where a team of 4 will have to cycle for 24 hours between them, around the Dunsfold Park Track in Surrey (used to film Top Gear!). Team 1 – Gavin Ross, Jack Macaree, Chris Keogh, Tim Maw Team 2 – Jim Cox, Simon Carter, Gavin Spires, Thomas Sugden Team 3 - Steve Liberda, Duncan Hall, Simon Wickson, Rob White Congratulations to the three teams from Avis who successfully completed the ‘Photoplod Midnight Challenge’ on the 5th June. This was a gruelling 40 mile hike across the South Downs Way, starting at Midnight in Steyning and finishing at Birling Gap. Out of 24 teams that entered, Team 3 came in 5th (12 hours) Team 2 in 6th (13.5 hours) and Team 1 in 12th (15-16 hours) – a truly outstanding achievement by everyone!! Team 1 – Claire Lambert, Lisa Benton, Annemarie Early, Mark Kightley, Jorge Da Rocha, , Claire Alvey, Jasvir Labana, Ronan Moriarty Team 2 – Steve Liberda, Michael Hennessey, Mark Cunningham (Cunny), Andrea Tallis, Rebecca Chivers, Josie Ryan, Penny Fox Team 3 – Jack Macaree, Chris Keogh, George Downing, Jim Cox, Rob White, Sharon Lee, Josi Kytle Support Team – Paul Miller, Dawn Killington, Delia Nicholson, Gary-Gaughan-Smith, Jo Humphreys Action Medical Research is a great charity that funds pioneering medical research. For nearly 60 years it has been involved with numerous breakthroughs such as ultrasound in pregnancy, the polio vaccine and the hip replacement operation.They fund many research projects each year which will lead to a healthier future for everyone. They are currently campaigning for the UK Government to put more money into research in to premature birth. Action Medical Research have funded over £4 million of research in this area but more research is required to understand why this remains the biggest killer of under ones. With your help we can achieve even more medical breakthroughs.
