Event: London to Paris 2008
Date of event: 23 July 2008
A message from Dave Donaldson
Hi,
Yes, I've got the cycling bug again and this time it's The London to Paris Bike Ride, 23rd – 26th July 2008 where I will endeavour to cycle 300 miles from London to Paris in less than four days.
My objective in attempting this challenge is to raise money for the charity Action Medical Research.
Action Medical Research is one of the UK’s most forward thinking charities. They believe diseases and disabilities can be beaten, and through medical research they are creating a healthier future for us all. They have been making medical breakthroughs for over fifty years-including helping develop the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and the hip replacement operation – saving countless lives and preventing disease and disability.
Today the charity is looking for answers to many serious illnesses. Selecting the best research projects in areas where we are most likely to find cures and treatments.
In addition to this, I am aware, especially as I will have reached the age of 62 myself by July, that people become far more interested in medical research the older they get. Many of us have relatives, friends or acquaintances that are either seriously ill or no longer with us so the idea of successful medical research, which of course needs funds, may strike a chord with you.
What do I want of you?
Each rider is committed to raise the minimum of £1,100 to take part in the event. The cost of support, accommodation, ferry (I am not cycling that bit), rail return, etc is £545 and I have already committed to pay that myself as I see that as my responsibility. I am therefore contacting a limited number of people asking them to pledge any sum they feel they can afford to sponsor me and support Action Medical Research. Obviously ALL monies sponsored will go directly to AMR.
The easiest way to sponsor me is online. In this way, your sponsorship money is submitted direct to Action Medical Research and I have no involvement in the financial side of the endeavour! Please sponsor me online or alternatively you could send me a cheque made out to Action Medical Research.
I realise that you will have many demands on your funds, but if you are able to sponsor me. I, and AMR, would be very grateful.
Best regards
Dave Donaldson.
To date I've raised £855.00 total online. In addition to this, the government's Gift Aid Scheme has raised a further £208.75
Please help me reach my target of £1,100.00.
