Peter Rothwell holds the Action Medical Research Chair of Neurology in Oxford.
“The main aim of my research is to improve the prevention of stroke, particularly after someone’s had what we call a minor stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA),” says Professor Peter Rothwell.
“I aim to improve understanding of the factors that increase people’s chances of having a stroke, and find ways to prevent strokes by making better use of existing treatments,” continues Professor Rothwell. “This approach enables new preventative strategies to be incorporated into clinical practice as quickly and cheaply as possible.”
“I became the fifth Action Medical Research Professor of Clinical Neurology in 2013, a post that was created with the charity’s help, and one that will enable me to continue to build up research in Oxford on prevention of stroke and associated vascular diseases,” adds Professor Rothwell.”
