Buckinghamshire resident Tara Garritt is putting her best foot forward to help sick and disabled babies and children by tackling a five-day hike in India in aid of Action Medical Research.
The 43-year-old is heading to the Himalayas as part of her mission to raise £10,000 for the UK-wide children’s charity in 2016.

A ‘delightful surprise’ for Action funded researcher Professor Elizabeth Tanner as she receives an OBE for services to biomedical engineering
Professor Elizabeth Tanner, Professor of Biomedical Materials at the University of Glasgow, has been awarded an OBE for services to Biomedical Engineering.
Professor Tanner said: “It was a delightful surprise. I am so pleased because it shows that the work I have been doing in biomedical engineering for the past 30 years has been worthwhile, benefitting people and patients.”
Professor Tanner specialises in the development and use of bioactive materials for bone augmentation and replacement.

Guest of honour Sir Jackie Stewart has helped children’s charity Action Medical Research race to success and raise more than £50,000 at its 21st annual Celebration of Motorsport Dinner.
The sold-out event welcomed 430 guests to the Culloden Hotel in Holywood on Friday, 4 December – with the racing legend in pole position to help raise the record amount.

Researchers at King’s College London have begun a new study to help improve surgery for newborn babies with a life-threatening heart disease called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS).
This study could, ultimately, give surgeons the tools they need to select the best treatment plan for each baby, improving their chances of survival and having the best possible quality of life during their childhood and beyond.
