Intrepid ladies take fundraising to new heights

A team of four adventurous mums from Northumberland are tackling an epic endurance race in a bid to raise £10,000 for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Sisters Jenny Vickers and Ruth Oldfield will be joined by Nicola Wood and Coco Oates for the gruelling Race the Sun challenge on Saturday, 29 August.

Son’s early birth inspires newlyweds to support children’s charity

A generous couple from Manchester raised hundreds of pounds for children’s charity Action Medical Research when they opted for donations instead of wedding gifts.

When Paul and Jade Livsey tied the knot on 13 June, they asked guests to give money to help save and change children’s lives in place of the more traditional teapot or toaster.

Sir Jackie Stewart revs up for charity’s Celebration of Motorsport

Sir Jackie Stewart has been unveiled as the guest of honour at children's charity Action Medical Research’s Celebration of Motorsport dinner later this year.

The racing legend will be in pole position at the event when it returns to its original home at the Culloden Hotel in Holywood on Friday, 4 December.

Children’s charity ambassador takes the plunge to raise funds

He’s pier-less when it comes to fundraising for Action Medical Research - and Phil Waters has vowed he won’t be out of his depth on his latest challenge.

The ambassador for the children’s charity plans to swim between the West Pier and the Palace Pier in Brighton this month to raise vital funds to save and change the lives of sick babies and children.

Cream teas raise a sweet £60,000 for Action Medical Research

Children’s charity Action Medical Research is celebrating the sweet taste of success after its cream-teas-in-a-box delivery raised more than £60,000 this summer.

The charity sent more than 10,370 cream teas to homes, schools and workplaces in two nationwide deliveries after its first dispatch on 18 June was such a triumph that the scheme was repeated on 7 August.

Thousands of people across the UK took a break and enjoyed a cuppa when their boxes arrived at the door as part of Action Medical Research’s unique fundraising campaign.

One Stop raises over £40,000 for Paddington’s favourite UK charity

One Stop customers and colleagues helped to raise an amazing £40,000 to save and change children’s lives during a collection for Action Medical Research in May.

The campaign saw some 770 One Stop stores around the country place Paddington-themed collection boxes on their countertops to raise vital funds for the fourth year running. CEO Tony Reed also took part in the 12th Barking Badgers Tour organised by Action Medical Research and completed a gruelling 234 miles.

Cyclists on track to raise over £360,000

Riders are on their way to raising more than a third of a million pounds for children’s charity Action Medical Research after cycling from London to Paris.

Cyclists who took part in the 300-mile ride, which also included a 24-hour route this year, are set to collect £360,000 to fund medical research to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

Promising steps ahead for teenagers with cerebral palsy

A new trial exercise programme for teenagers with cerebral palsy starts in London on 3 August. The programme will involve up to 60 young people aged 12-19.

Children’s charity Action Medical Research and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Charitable Trust are jointly funding the three year study.

Estimates suggest around one in every 400 people has cerebral palsy in the UK1. They will experience lifelong problems with movement and coordination, which vary greatly from one child to another.

Pair rally to support children's charity after tragic loss

Two lorry drivers from Kent are setting off on a 1,200-mile rally to raise vital funds for Action Medical Research.

Marc Collins, 35, from Herne Bay but originally from Canterbury, and Mark Rogers, 41, from Canterbury, are tackling the Two Ball Banger Rally in August,  travelling across nine countries in four days to raise £5,000 for the children’s charity.

The pair were inspired to support Action Medical Research after Marc’s niece sadly died after being born prematurely.

‘Anything is possible’ as Chris begins ride across America

Big-hearted Billericay resident Chris Armishaw will be tackling the ride of his life this month when he heads to North America for a 3,000-mile challenge.

Chris, whose motto is ‘anything is possible’, is aiming to complete his epic endeavour from Washington DC to San Francisco in just 15 days and raise at least £10,000 for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Celebrities get creative for Art for Action charity sale

Celebrities, novelists, artists and chefs have been inspired to get creative for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Dozens of people have answered the call for original postcard-sized works of art to raise money to help save and change children’s lives, with the theme of childhood memories.

Radio presenter and journalist Libby Purves, best-selling crime writer Peter James and model Vita West are among those creating 5” x 8” artworks to be sold at Copdock Hall in Suffolk in October.

Cyclist to tackle Essex 100 ride - one year on from heart surgery

Cycling challenge the Essex 100 ride will take place through the stunning North Essex countryside later this summer and children’s charity Action Medical Research is calling for riders to sign up now for the event on Sunday, 20 September.

The ride offers three options: a Cool 37-mile route for those new to cycling or who haven’t had much time to train; a Classic 68-mile route; or the more challenging Champion option, which covers 104 miles - ideal for experienced sportive riders.

Smeg UK goes the extra mile for Action Medical Research

Staff at Smeg UK are leading the pack for children’s charity Action Medical Research when it comes to fundraising after heading to Italy last month for a bespoke 300-mile bike ride.

After a team undertook Action’s London to Paris ride in 2014, this year the Abingdon-based appliance supplier took its support up a gear with a challenging tour created by Action’s cycling experts between the mountains of Northern Italy.

Children’s charity to repeat sweet success of cream tea delivery

Cream tea lovers will have a fresh chance to indulge this summer when children’s charity Action Medical Research runs its hugely popular cream teas in a box scheme for a second time.

After the sweet success of its first delivery, which saw thousands of cream teas delivered to homes, schools and workplaces around the country, the charity is running a second delivery in August.

Fundraising hero tackles not one but two of charity’s ultimate challenges – within a week!

A dedicated fundraiser from Ampthill, Bedfordshire, is tackling not one but two of Action Medical Research’s epic outdoor challenges – within a week of each other.

Adrian Wadsworth, 47, was first encouraged to sign up for the children’s charity’s Race the Sun Brecon Beacons on Saturday, 27 June, by team captain Jon Reep.

Along with Dave Wilson and Martin Cruise, they will join teams to cycle 45 miles, climb Pen y Fan (2,907ft) and canoe 3km across Pontsticill Reservoir, starting at sunrise and finishing by sunset - racing the sun!
