Michael Bond CBE Remembered

On Tuesday 14 November, Action Medical Research was honoured to join more than a thousand other guests at St Paul’s Cathedral in memory of Michael Bond CBE. 

The grand venue in the nation’s capital was fitting for a man whose imagination, humour and whimsical wonder captured the hearts and minds of generations of children across the globe.

An Action Medical Research fundraising event in Hampshire has marked a milestone for one of the charity’s celebrity supporters, TV presenter Davina McCall.

On Friday, 3 November around 400 women attended the Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton for the eleventh annual ‘Dine with Davina’.

Action Medical Research announces seven new grants for research to help sick babies and children

 

 

Children’s charity Action Medical Research has confirmed funding for seven new studies to help sick babies and children. With a combined value of more than £1.1 million, the charity’s latest grant round will see top research teams investigating areas including cerebral palsy, vision problems, speech impairment and the infectious disease scarlet fever.

Hereford family’s moving juvenile Batten disease film nominated for Charity Film Award

A short film featuring a local family has been entered into the 2018 Charity Film Awards.

Children’s charity Action Medical Research worked with Jody Penn and Dee Evans to create a short film showing the devastating impact of juvenile Batten disease which, tragically, affects three of their children.

Horsham’s Capitol takes Action on World Kindness Day

Sussex residents will be able to enjoy a heart-warming film while raising money for charity on World Kindness Day (13 November).

The Capitol in Horsham is holding a special preview screening of ‘Wonder’ with suggested ticket admission prices going straight to locally-based children’s charity Action Medical Research.

Sussex charity celebrates 65 years of medical research for children on World Polio Day

Children’s charity Action Medical Research was founded in 1952 by Duncan Guthrie in his quest to find a cure for polio, a condition that affected the lives of many thousands of children including his own daughter, Janet.

Early research funded by the charity helped to develop the first oral polio vaccine which eradicated new cases of polio in the UK, protecting children from a greatly feared disease.

Worcestershire cyclists complete cycling challenge for children’s charity

A group of colleagues from Worcestershire have successfully completed a 55-mile cycling challenge for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

George Brown, 29, from Droitwich led a team of seven from Cold Clad Ltd along the ‘Taff Trail Challenge’ in Wales on Saturday, 23 September.

Tony Hadley swings into action for Action

Tony Hadley – solo artist and former lead singer of 80s sensation Spandau Ballet – swapped his microphone for a golf club on Friday 15 September.

The singing star once again lent his support to children’s charity Action Medical Research by hosting his annual ‘Golf Classic’ sponsored by Quai Administration Services.

Organised by Action Medical Research’s Peterborough Committee, this year’s theme was ‘It’s Just A Question of Sport’.

Essex toddler helps Davina and Paddington™ support Action

Aiden Mitchell, a three-year-old boy from Essex, helped support Action Medical Research at the annual ‘BGC Charity Day’ in Canary Wharf, London on 11 September.

He was joined by his parents Keith and Fleur to accompany charity ambassador Davina McCall and official mascot Paddington Bear™.

Each year global brokerage company BGC Partners and its affiliate Cantor Fitzgerald donate 100 per cent of the global revenues generated on Charity Day to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and dozens of charities around the world.
