Artists raise £12,500 for children’s charity with ‘real deal’ Christmas cards
Lynn Tait, a gallery owner in Leigh on Sea, has helped to raise £12,500 for the children’s charity, Action Medical Research. A long-standing supporter of the charity, Lynn invited 12 fellow artists to design and donate an exclusive piece of artwork for the charity’s 2013 Christmas card venture.
Within two weeks of putting her inspiration into action, Lynn had 12 design offers and had also secured sponsorship free of charge from the printers The Sherwood Press and The Imaging Centre, paper company G F Smith, Yorkshire Envelopes, Visual Packaging Ltd, Progressive Greetings and Progressive Greetings Live. This meant that every penny raised from the sale of the Christmas cards could go to Action Medical Research.
Artists who donated their artwork to the project include Julia Hook Designs, Linda Wood Designs, Paper Salad, The London Studio, Berni Parker, Trumpers World, Wrendale Designs, Celia Pike, Libby McMullin, Dilys Treacle Treasures – distinctive, Cherry Picked For You and Hels bells.
Lynn announced the amount she raised for Action Medical Research at a champagne reception at her stall at the International Spring Fair at Birmingham NEC on Monday 3 February. Lynn was joined by many of the artists who contributed to the Christmas card designs, along with the sponsors.
Lynn Tait, said: “I am thrilled with the support that we have received from the sales of the real deal charity cards. Everyone has been talking about the quality and diversity of the cards, not to mention every penny going to the charity. I’d like to say a big thank you to the artists and sponsors, and of course the numerous customers who bought the cards, to support this wonderful charity."
The sale of Christmas cards raised money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
