Charity announces partnership with CyclingBuddy

6 September 2013

Children’s charity Action Medical Research is teaming up with CyclingBuddy, a free web community that allows members to find other members to go cycling with. The partnership will give Action event participants access to a great free tool to help with training, preparation and all round enjoyment of cycling.

Action Medical Research has a passion for cycling and has built up a successful portfolio of well-respected events in the UK, including the RIDE100 series and Action London to Paris rides, as well as the star-studded Champions of CycleSport dinner.

The CyclingBuddy website launched in 2012 and boasts some neat features. Members can log their rides, map, plan and share routes as well as exchange emails with other members in a secure online environment.

Cyclingbuddy's founder, Tony Piedade, who came up with the idea for the web community says: “Everyone needs a bit of motivation to get the most out of their cycling, especially as we head into the cooler autumn and winter months. Cycling with someone else pushes you further and faster and of course you can have a bit more fun along the way.

“It’s great to see such a thriving community of cyclists on CyclingBuddy. Each month thousands of miles are logged by members from across the UK and overseas. And of course it’s also great to now help support this wonderful charity.”

Action Medical Research Head of Community and Events Fundraising, David Graham, says: “Cycling contributes significant income towards our important work saving and changing children’s lives. Cycling for Action is a great way to get fit, see some brilliant scenery, meet dynamic people and raise vital funds. We’re delighted to partner with Cyclingbuddy and help more people come together to join the exciting world of cycling.”

With the help of its supporters, Action has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs for over 60 years, starting with the development of the first UK polio vaccines. The charity is currently funding research into many conditions, including preventing early labour and developing treatments for babies affected by premature birth, helping children with disabilities and tackling rare diseases for which there are currently no cures.
