Charity cyclists take part in Peterborough 100 ride

16 April 2014

Almost 350 cyclists took part in the Peterborough 100 bike ride on Sunday (13 April), which is expected to raise £25,000 for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The event took place from the Peterborough Marriott Hotel and took in the five counties of Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Rutland, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. Riders enjoyed stunning scenery right across the route, long country roads with incredible views, homemade flapjacks and the renowned lunch stops.

Event organiser, Lucy Hynes from Action Medical Research, said: “With such wonderful weather on our side, the event was a great success. Riders enjoyed one of our three great routes from 46 miles to a 100 mile challenge and all returned safe, well and smiling!”

Money raised by cyclists participating in the Peterborough 100 will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, and diabetes, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

The Peterborough 100 was part of the charity’s popular RIDE100 series of one-day bike rides that take place in fantastic cycling locations across the UK.

The date for 2015 is already arranged for this ever popular ride and is the Sunday 19 April. However, if you fancy a challenge sooner than that you can come along to the Suffolk Sunrise 100 on 11 May.
