Charity makes final call for creatives to contribute to ‘Art for Action’ exhibition

Artists, designers, art schools and celebrities are being called to contribute to the 2017 ‘Art for Action’ exhibition in aid of children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The previous exhibition, in 2015, raised nearly £11,000 for the charity and featured 188 artworks including a contribution from high-profile contemporary artist Grayson Perry. Artists already committed for 2017 include Maggi Hambling, Tory Lawrence, Keith Salmon, Julian Bell, Mary Gundry, Helen Armstrong Bland, Derek Chambers, Peter McCarthy, Annabel Dover, Becky Munting, Roger Hardy and Jackie Cotton. Creative contributions also promised from celebrities Anneka Rice, Dermot Murnaghan and best-selling crime writer Peter James. Will you be a part of this amazing event?

On Thursday, 18 May, members of the Ipswich group for Action Medical Research will be holding an exclusive sale of all the original postcard-sized works of art to raise money for the charity, to help save and change children’s lives.

The exhibition and sale of the A5 (210 x 148 mm) artworks will be held at The Tudor Barn, Belstead, near Ipswich and both established and budding artists are being called on to enter a piece for the exciting event. Those attending pay just £30 for a unique piece of art but will not know the creator until they have made their purchase. It could be a masterpiece!

Contributions are welcomed in a range of mediums - sketch, drawing, painting or photograph. Don’t miss out! There are also opportunities to join current sponsors and supporters Barker Gotelee Solicitors, Clarke and Simpson, Classic Stoves and Ranges, Claydens Financial, Ensors Chartered Accountants, Ryan’s Insurance and Handelsbanken.

For 65 years Action Medical Research has been saving and changing children’s lives and has spent more than £115 million funding medical breakthroughs, including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, discovering the importance of taking folic acid before and during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
