CHARITY PARTNERS WITH BUCKET-LIST EVENT

Action Medical Research is the only UK charity partner of once-in-a-life-time, bucket-list event – Maratona Dles Dolomites July 2015!

The Maratona Dles Dolomites Enel, now in its’ 29th year, has long been regarded as one of the world’s greatest sportives, as well as one of the toughest cycle-rides  – and children’s charity Action Medical Research, has an unparalleled reputation for organising top class cycling events. A winning combination! So this year Action has become the Maratona Dles Dolomites Enel’s only official UK charity partner – and whilst the event sold out within days – the charity has secured 50 places. Cyclists have the opportunity of paying a one-off fee of just £500, on a first come, first served basis, which all goes directly to the charity so they can participate amongst the 9,000 riders, taking in spectacular scenery as they cross no fewer than seven Dolomite passes in Italy!

There are three route options available – the 55km Sellaronda with an altitude gain of 1,780m, the 106km Middle Course with 3,130 of climbing, and the 138km with an altitude gain of 4,230m.  This latter includes the imposing Passo Giau, one of the Giro d’Italia’s iconic climbs.

David Graham, Head of Community Events and Fundraising, commented: “Come and be part of something very special on Sunday 5 July 2015. If you think you’ve already completed most of the major milestone rides then think again, this is one of the most important amateur cyclist events in the whole of Europe.”

The money raised by the riders will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded.  Action Medical Research is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.  To find out more or to apply for a place: http://www.action.org.uk/maratona-dles-dolomites-enel
