Peter James gets behind thrilling golf event for Action Medical Research

Bestselling author Peter James is once again backing the annual Peter James Golf Classic in aid of Horsham-based children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The author of the Roy Grace murder mystery novels is calling on golfers and crime fiction fans alike to take to the course at Haywards Heath Golf Club on Friday, 2 September 2016, to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

This will be the seventh Peter James Golf Classic at the picturesque club in High Beech Lane and the popular event has raised more than £74,000 for Action Medical Research since it began.

“I’m delighted to support Action Medical Research and to be able to help them a little with the incredible work they do,” he says. “I've been aware of the charity for many years, including their pioneering work contributing to the development of the first polio vaccine – there isn’t anyone I know who hasn’t been touched in some way by their work.

“I have a big interest in medicine, often writing about medical themes, so it’s wonderful to help make a difference on behalf of Action Medical Research, especially when medical research is so poorly funded, especially for children.”

The competition is limited to 32 four-ball teams and there are a few spaces remaining for teams keen to tee off with the king of crime writing.

Entry is £250 per team and the winning team will receive a prize worth up to £400, with prizes for the next five places totalling £600.

Peter, whose latest Roy Grace novel is Love You Dead, the 12th book in the series, will be in attendance after the event to hand out prizes and sign copies of his books, which have sold 18 million copies worldwide.

For more than 60 years Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world. Research it has funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.

The charity is currently funding research into premature birth, meningitis, Down syndrome and epilepsy, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
