Chris Boardman MBE returns as Ambassador for ‘cycling event of the year’

5 March 2014

The children's charity Action Medical Research has a passion for all things cycling and to celebrate yet another successful season in the saddle, the charity will be hosting the fifth annual Champions of CycleSport Dinner, with cycling legend Chris Boardman MBE as the Ambassador.
Guests can dine with some of the world's greatest cyclists at this unique sell out event, raising funds for sick and vulnerable children and babies. Attendees can rub shoulders with Olympic Gold Medallists and a whole host of exceptional champion cyclists at our star-studded dinner – the ultimate cycling night out. Sir Dave Brailsford and Martyn Ashton are already confirmed to attend.

Chris Boardman, says, “I’m very proud to be an Ambassador for the Champions of CycleSport Dinner. It’s a fantastic event and it’s a fantastic charity. I know firsthand, my son George was born prematurely and benefitted from the work which charities like Action do. It’s really easy to help, just get on your bike and ride for a reason.”

The date of the 2014 Champions of CycleSport Dinner is 27 November, to be held at a new venue, the Battersea Evolution.  The event will be supported by Media Partner Rouleur for the third year running and the partnership will mean some fabulous offers and prizes will be available for guests.

The 2013 event, held Thursday 28 November, was attended by over 600 guests, who were joined by some of the biggest names on two wheels including Chris Boardman MBE, Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Dave Brailsford, Jody Cundy MBE, Matti Hemmings, Hannah Barnes and Sean Kelly. It was a night to remember with live and exclusive interviews with the Champions, conducted by Sky TV's Dermot Murnaghan. Dr Dawn Harper hosted the welcome speech on the night and Match of the Day’s Simon Brotherton was the live auctioneer. A fantastic £185,000 was raised to help sick babies and children. Action fully intends to top that in 2014 and ensure it’s the best yet!

Martyn Ashton, a former World Bike Trial champion, will also be attending as a special guest. Martyn, said: “I'm so excited to be supporting The Champions of CycleSport dinner. I've been lucky enough to attend a couple of times over the years, and I have always been blown away by the passion and drive to raise money for Action Medical Research. It's always been an exciting, inspiring and at times, really moving evening; one of the industry’s most important charities, providing an evening for the crème of cycling.”
