Commvault and Pure Storage gear up for charity cycling challenge

14 June 2016

Employees at data and information management software firms Commvault and Pure Storage are racing to raise funds for Action Medical Research – by taking part in its popular London to Paris bike ride.

On 20 July 2016, 30 riders from Commvault and 13 riders from Pure Storage will join forces to cycle 275 miles to the French capital over four days in a bid to raise £64,500 for the UK-wide children’s charity.

Workers from as far afield as the US, Israel and Dubai are joining Commvault colleagues from Reading to tackle the challenge, with Pure Storage colleagues taking part from the UK.

“Commvault has been taking part in the London to Paris bike ride for the past two years because it such a win/win. Commvault riders get an ambitious goal to aim for and Action Medical Research gets the much needed funds for pioneering treatment,” says Susie Andrew, EMEA HR Director. “This year we are thrilled to be joined by our partner Pure Storage to further this momentum and hope together we can beat last year’s fundraising achievement.”

Peter Gadd, Director, Northern EMEA at Pure Storage, says: “The Pure Good Foundation accelerates positive change by harnessing the power of people, technology, and community. We are delighted to be partnering with Commvault to amplify our efforts in making a difference in the lives of babies and children. The team is proud of the opportunity to showcase the Pure spirit shown in training for this strenuous race, though we recognize the magnitude of the race that Action Medical Research and it's beneficiaries are on every day, and are humbled by their efforts and commitment.”

Last year 32 Commvault staff – many of whom had never met before in person – came together from around the globe to ride for a reason: the team raised £75,000 to fund medical research to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled babies and children.

For 2016 they’re kicking off their fundraising with a five-a-side football match at Commvault’s UK office in Forbury Road, Reading, on Wednesday, 15 June, with a viewing of the England vs Wales Euro 2016 game the following day.

Action’s London to Paris ride, which is in its 16th year, will finish in Paris on Saturday, 23 July, with cyclists riding in convoy down the Champs Élysées to the Eiffel Tower the day before the iconic Tour de France race ends along the same streets.

In July 2015 almost 250 cyclists raised more than £360,000 and cyclists participating in this year’s ride – the biggest of its kind  – will be raising money to help the hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled children in the UK.

For more than 60 years Action Medical Research has helped pioneer treatments and ways to prevent disease that have benefited millions of people in the UK and across the world. Research they’ve funded has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths.

Action Medical Research is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
