Could you be part of the ‘PLOD Squad’?

10 November 2014

If a ‘plod’ puts you in mind of a slow steady walk then think again, this event is fast and furious, although your legs may very well be like lead as you reach the finish!  The PLOD Midnight Challenges, which take place across Great Britain and raise funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research, aren’t for the faint-hearted but serious teams of endurance striders, willing to navigate strenuous conditions and tough terrain. The gruelling events (usually around 40 miles) see teams starting off in the dark using head torches to light their way and their maps, before sunrise, when they’re often rewarded with breath-taking views and stunning scenery as they battle against each other to the finish.

Do you have what it takes to form a squad of gritty, determined ‘Action’ Heroes?  Perfect for team bonding, it costs just £99 to register a team of four if you register before 31st December 2014 (£150 after) and each ‘squad’ is asked to raise a minimum of £1,500 per team. Past entrants all agree it’s a uniquely rewarding and satisfying experience – not only completing the PLOD but also knowing that all money they raise goes to Action Medical Research which has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs for over 60 years, starting with the development of the first UK polio vaccines. It is currently funding research into many conditions, including preventing early labour and developing treatments for babies affected by premature birth, helping children with disabilities and tackling rare diseases for which there are currently no cures.

Each ‘PLOD’ team will need to provide their own kit, along with a support vehicle and driver capable of transporting food, drink and team members – although a full hearty breakfast is provided to all participants. Isn’t that incentive enough?
