Could you help us make a difference?

5 June 2017

It’s National Volunteer’s Week 1-7 June and Action Medical Research is asking people across the UK to help us in our bid to save little lives.

Action raises funds for desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children.

Launched in 1952, the charity organises a number of events ranging from cycling sportives to cream teas and art shows! It has a number of celebrity supporters including Davina McCall, Peter James and Jody Cundy, OBE.

But it also relies on volunteers who selflessly give up their free time to help make sure the charity and its events continue to thrive. Jane Charlton is the Volunteer Development Manager at Action: “We have around 1,000 volunteers who currently help us throughout the year. They are amazing and we honestly couldn’t function without them.

“We organise such a diverse range of fundraising events and activities which offer a variety of opportunities to help.

“Could you give a talk at a local school? Perhaps help marshal at one of our many bike rides or even organise a fundraising event of your own!”

You can find out much more information about volunteering for Action Medical Research here (https://www.action.org.uk/volunteers).

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.

Action Medical Research is a leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound in pregnancy, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you.
