#CreamTeas campaign raises over £55,000

Action Medical Research is delighted to announce that its annual #CreamTeas campaign has raised over £55,000!

For the past three years, the charity has organised the annual event encouraging individuals, groups, businesses and schools to take time out and enjoy a delicious treat.

Hundreds of people across the UK ordered their boxes of delicious cream teas (packed with care by scores of volunteers) which were delivered direct to their doors during June and July.

A number of the charity’s celebrity supporters also got in on the action including TV medic Dr Dawn Harper, crime author Peter James and Action Medical Research’s mascot Paddington Bear™.

Head of Community Fundraising and Major Giving David Graham said: “We cannot thank everyone who ordered our Cream Teas enough! The campaign continues to go from strength to strength and it was brilliant to see so many messages of support on social media from people enjoying their scrumptious snacks.

“Hopefully everyone who got involved enjoyed the chance to have a break with friends and colleagues, knowing that their generous contribution to Action really could help save tiny lives.”

Approximately 9,470 boxes were individually packed by volunteers and sent out across the UK.

The delivery included roughly 18,940 scones, 9,470 Yorkshire teabags, 379kg of Rodda's Cornish Clotted Cream and more than 1,000kg of Tiptree strawberry jam to give supporters everything they needed for the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children. It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
