Dani Rowe MBE is urging cyclists to make 2018 the year to ‘ride for a reason’ for children’s charity Action Medical Research.
The three-time World Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist is helping promote the charity’s RIDE100 series which officially launches this month.
Dani has supported Action for more than five years and is a regular attendee at the annual ‘Champions of CycleSport’ fundraising dinner.
The elite athlete – who is currently training for the Commonwealth Games in April – says that she is proud to support the challenges: “Action is a fantastic children’s charity that raises funds for research into a wide range of medical conditions.
“Cycling is obviously a passion of mine and it’s great to support a cause that does so much to get more people cycling. By signing up, you too could challenge yourself and help save tiny lives.”
All the RIDE100 events boast a choice of three courses, ranging from around 30 miles to 120 miles; they’re held at various different locations across the UK including Kent, Suffolk, Sussex, Essex, Scotland and York.
To help encourage riders to get involved a special 40% discount is being offered for those registering between 25 January and 1 February with the code RIDE40.
David Graham is Action’s Head of Major Giving & Community Fundraising: “We have been honoured to work closely with Dani for a number of years now and we hope that her public support for this year’s RIDE100 series will inspire people across the UK to ride for a reason.
“With the different routes available, there’s something for cyclists of all levels of experience and ability.
“In addition to these events we have a whole host of other cycling challenges running throughout 2018; last year we collectively saw around 5,000 cyclists get involved, raising about £690,000.
“It would be fantastic to see even more people enjoying one of our cycling events and helping us fund vital research.”
Action Medical Research is a UK-wide children’s charity which funds desperately needed research to tackle the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children.
It has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952 including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.
The charity is currently funding research into conditions including asthma, prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
