Davina McCall: join me for the Sussex Action DIVA charity ride!
TV’s Davina McCall will once again take to the saddle when she joins riders for the third women-only Action DIVA Sussex bike ride, setting out from the fabulous East Sussex National*, Uckfield, on Saturday 11 May.
More women than ever are getting hooked on road cycling as one of the best ways to get fit and stay in shape. Action DIVA is a cycle ride just for the girls and Davina wants as many as possible to join her.
Cyclists participating in the ride raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Davina McCall is calling on all women to join the fun and raise a huge amount to help children’s charity Action Medical Research.
Davina says: “What better way to motivate yourself to get and stay fit than to sign up for this brilliant bike ride. By doing so, you lovely ladies will be able to raise some dosh for the most amazing charity – thank you.”
Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, and diabetes, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
The Action DIVA ride offers a choice of routes including a 17 mile route, 33 mile route and a tougher 63 mile route which will take you through some of the best scenery in Sussex. So, whatever your level of fitness, there is a ride for you.
“It’s a beautiful route through some of the most amazing Sussex countryside. Women of all shapes and sizes and abilities take part and Action Medical Research provide great support for all riders – so don’t be scared ladies, it’s amazing what you can do on a bike!” says Davina.
The ride, supported by leading bike brand Trek, includes plenty of rest stops and a fully-serviced lunch. Staff riders, first aiders and massage therapists will also be on hand.
Entry costs £28 and participants will also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. Will you take the 2013 Action DIVA challenge and sign up now to join Davina? Sign up now at www.action.org.uk/diva

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children. We’ve been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 and have funded research that has helped save thousands of children’s lives and changed many more.
Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:
• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
But there is still so much more to do. Please help us fund more life-changing research for some of the UK’s sickest babies and children.
Action Medical Research has more than 30 years experience in organising successful bike rides. Routes are monitored and clearly signposted. Snack and lunch stops are provided and medical and mechanical staff are on hand at all times.
The Action DIVA series is supported by Trek Bicycle, a global leader in the design and manufacture of bicycles and related products.
