This is Davina… please wear your Wellies to Work

5 July 2010

TV’s Davina McCall is asking the nation to take part in Wear Your Wellies to Work day this September to raise money for children’s health charity Action Medical Research.
And for those who do join in there is a chance to win a pair of super-stylish bright pink Hunter wellies, worn and signed by Davina herself (as modelled in our photo).

Whether it’s funky festival boots, green gardening ones or trusty winter walkers, it’s really easy to take part in Wellies to Work day – all you need to do is encourage everyone in your workplace to wear their favourite boots on 18 September and collect a donation of £2 from each welly-wearer.

Currently presenting the last ever series of Big Brother, Davina and her family are long-term supporters of Action Medical Research – as a five-year-old Davina took part in her first sponsored walk for the charity, which funds research into many serious diseases and conditions that affect babies and children in the UK.

Davina says: “Green wellies, black wellies, pink wellies, designer wellies – I love them all. This is a fun event that everyone, young, old, male, female, can get involved in.  For just £2, you wear your wellies and raise money for a fantastic charity!  What’s not to like? My three children love splashing about in the rain and we all have wellies. So go on, wear your wellies on Wellies to Work day and do a good thing for charity. Please.”

Those who want to add more fun and daring to their Wellies to Work day, could organise a welly wanging contest to see who can throw their wellies the furthest or have a three-legged welly race. From organising a welly fashion show or even a ‘decorate your welly competition’, there are many ways in which you can organise additional activities to make ‘Wellies to Work’ a success and raise as much money as possible.

Register now at www.welliestowork.com and download the event guide for some ideas to bring a bit of welly fun into the work place and raise money for a good cause.

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children. We know that medical research can save and change children’s lives. For nearly 60 years we have been instrumental in significant medical breakthroughs, including the development of the UK polio vaccine and ultrasound scanning in pregnancy.

Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:

•    tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
•    helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
•    targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
