Super-fit Davina McCall, 49 this year, is signed up to complete the iconic Simplyhealth Great North Run on Sunday 10 September 2017. She will be fundraising for children’s charity, Action Medical Research.

The ‘wife, mother, friend and TV presenter’ - and fitness guru - has supported the UK-wide charity since she was a child. Inspired by her granny Pippy, she has brought her warmth, charisma and determination to countless fundraising events over the years.

One of the UK’s busiest and most loved personalities, Davina is no stranger to fitness challenges. Her gruelling Sport Relief Challenge in 2014 was high-profile and her fitness programme and range of DVDs are best sellers.

Each year she also hosts Davina’s Big Sussex Bike Ride in June, a female-friendly ride through the leafy lanes of Sussex, for Action Medical Research.

“Action Medical Research is a charity close to my heart and I’m delighted to be fundraising for them by completing the Great North Run. 13.1 miles from the centre of Newcastle, across the Tyne Bridge, to the coast in South Shields. It’s going to be brilliant! What are you waiting for? Register your ballot place now and you can join me in raising funds for Action!”

The general entry ballot for the Great North Run closes Monday 6 February.

For 65 years Action Medical Research has been saving and changing children’s lives and has spent more than £115 million funding medical breakthroughs, including helping to introduce the first polio vaccines in the UK, discovering the importance of taking folic acid before and during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida, developing the use of ultrasound in pregnancy and testing the rubella vaccine.

The charity is currently funding research into conditions including prematurity, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy, brain cancer and some rare and distressing conditions.
