Dean Downing to attend ‘cycling event of the year’

29 August 2014

The children's charity Action Medical Research has a passion for all things cycling and to celebrate yet another successful season in the saddle, it will be hosting the fifth annual Champions of CycleSport Dinner with cycling legend Chris Boardman MBE as Ambassador. The event will be held on the 27 November at the Battersea Evolution and is sponsored this year by both Broadstone and BDO LLP. Action is pleased to announce that retired racing champ, Dean Downing will also be supporting and attending this year’s event.
Guests can dine with some of the world's greatest cyclists at this unique sell out event, raising funds for sick and vulnerable babies and children. Attendees can rub shoulders with Olympic Gold medallists and a whole host of exceptional champion cyclists at the star-studded dinner – the ultimate cycling night out. Sir Dave Brailsford, Martyn Ashton, Ian Wilkinson, Yanto Barker and Jody Cundy MBE are already also on the list to attend.

Dean Downing, says, “Action is a fantastic charity that does so much to improve the lives of sick babies and children. Being a father of two children myself, I am honoured to be invited to this event, which is a real high point on the cycling calendar.”

The event will be supported by Media Partner Rouleur for the third year running and the partnership will mean some fabulous offers and prizes will be available for guests. Also supporting the event are Frog Bikes and newly acquired interviews sponsor Quilter Cheviot, one of the UK’s largest independently owned discretionary investment firms. The firm is based in twelve locations across the UK, Jersey and Ireland and focuses primarily on structuring and managing bespoke discretionary portfolios for private clients, charities, trusts, pension funds and intermediaries.

There will be a live demo on the night from world record BMX Flatlander, Matti Hemmings and music until 2am, as well as a live and silent auction. Prizes include money can’t buy ride outs with some of the world’s greatest cyclists, signed memorabilia, tickets to VIP hospitality at the 2015 Tour De France, a day in the team cars and much, much more.

The event is being sponsored by Broadstone and BDO Corporate Finance. Broadstone provides clear-cut financial planning and investment solutions for private clients, families and Institutions. The company strives to make the complex straightforward and to understand clients’ needs. Broadstone wants to help them to achieve their ambitions and part of this is planning the journey. By using Broadstone’s fee-based independent financial advice clients can confidently consider life-planning, protection, pre-retirement and investment options. Leaving clients free to focus on living life and cycling more!

The other event sponsor, BDO Corporate Finance is focused on obtaining the ‘best deal’ for clients, providing independent financial advice to shareholders, private and public companies, financial institutions and the public sector on buying and selling companies, raising finance, IPOs and strategic advice on complex reorganisations. Advising across all sectors and completing over 200 transactions a year, making them one of the most active advisers in the UK.

The 2013 event was attended by over 600 guests, joined by some of the biggest names on two wheels including Chris Boardman MBE, Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Dave Brailsford, Jody Cundy MBE, Matti Hemmings, Hannah Barnes and Sean Kelly. It was a night to remember with live and exclusive interviews with the Champions, conducted by Sky TV's Dermot Murnaghan. Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies Dr Dawn Harper hosted the welcome speech on the night and Match of the Day’s Simon Brotherton was the live auctioneer. £185,000 was raised to help sick babies and children. Action fully intends to top that in 2014 and ensure it’s the best yet!
