‘Ever Present’ runner shows support for Action

27 April 2015

Stalwart marathon runner Terry Macey showed his support for children’s charity Action Medical Research in the 35th London Marathon on Sunday – having competed every year since the race began.

Terry, 66, is part of a group of runners who have competed in every marathon in the capital since it launched in 1981 – dubbed the ‘Ever Presents’, the group’s 12 members (originally 42 people) are now guaranteed a place every year.

The solicitor was inspired to support Action Medical Research this year after attending Buckingham Palace in March for a reception to mark HRH The Duke of Edinburgh’s 60th year as our patron.

Having taken part in one of our popular cycling events, he and daughter Rebecca were among 100 Action guests, including researchers, doctors, scientists and business people, who attended the reception. “We met some of the researchers, who are so passionate about what they’re doing, and we were interested and impressed,” he said.

A former member of the Territorial Army, he was motivated to join the first marathon after hearing a race was launching which started less than half a mile from his Greenwich home. His proximity to the start line means there are no excuses for not taking part – hence his impressive track record of completing every event!

Terry, who also raised funds for the NSPCC on the day, is already looking ahead to the 2016 London Marathon when he hopes to improve on this year’s time of five hours and 16 minutes.

He and Rebecca, who has also joined him for two previous London Marathons, are also planning further fundraising efforts for Action Medical Research.

The charity funds research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people and currently has more than £11 million invested in the work of more than 230 top researchers working on over 75 projects across the UK. Action Medical Research is a leading UK-wide charity working to save and change children’s lives through medical research. We believe that the diseases that devastate the lives of so many of our children can be beaten. We have been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 like the first polio vaccines in the UK, ultrasound in pregnancy and the rubella vaccine – helping to save thousands of children’s lives and change many more.

Just one breakthrough, however small, can mean the world. Charity reg. nos 208701 and SC039284.
