Get active, take action and Walk for Tiny Lives: make every step count for children

13 June 2013

Children’s charity Action Medical Research is launching Walk for Tiny Lives this summer; a great way to get active and make a difference for sick babies and children by organising a sponsored walk.

Today’s charity events often call on willing supporters to take on cycling challenges, marathon running or long distance treks. Walk for Tiny Lives is for those not tempted by, or able to take on, these challenges. Individuals organise the walk themselves with the support of the charity; from an amble in a local park to a sunshine stroll along the beach.

Anyone can take part; from grandparents to babies in buggies. Walk for Tiny Lives is about getting together, getting active and making a difference by raising money for a great cause.

Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded. Action Medical Research is currently funding research into conditions including Down syndrome, premature birth, epilepsy, meningitis and rare diseases.

The team at Action are on hand to help every step of the way and a number of materials are available to make organising a walk as easy as possible.

Jemma Jones, Events Fundraiser at Action Medical Research, says: “It really is as easy as putting one foot in front of the other! By organising your own Walk for Tiny Lives you can combine a great day out with doing something really positive that may help fund the next medical breakthrough.”

“So come on grab some friends, rope in your relatives and get the kids along. Walk for Tiny Lives and make every step count!”

Action Medical Research is a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. We want to make a difference in:

  • tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
  • helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
  • targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.

Just one breakthrough, however small, can mean the world.
