Get ready girls for Action DIVA Scotland ride
Children’s charity Action Medical Research is getting ready for its first Scottish cycling event of the year, ladies’ only ride the Action DIVA Scotland. The ride sets out from the grounds of Tulliallan Castle, Fife, on Sunday 19 May and there is still time to sign up and take part.
There is a choice of three circular routes, from a ‘cool’ 19 miles, a ‘classic’ 35 or the toughest 66-mile ‘champion’ route. Sights along the way include the ancient burgh of Culross, with period houses lining the partially cobbled streets, and views of Loch Leven.
Two further cycling events will take place later in the summer – the Trossachs Ton on 16 June and the Glasgow 100 on 11 August, which are open to riders of both sexes.
Cyclists participating in Action DIVA Scotland will raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. In Scotland the charity is currently funding research projects based in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow. These include work to tackle visual field defects in children, pregnancy complications and preterm labour.
Janet Balcombe, event organiser from Action Medical Research, says: “There’s not long to go until the first of our trio of 2013 bike rides in Scotland. This one is just for the lasses, so please ladies dust off your bikes and join us for a great day out. Every mile pedalled will help sick babies and children.”
The ride is supported by leading bike brand Trek and includes plenty of rest stops and refreshments. Staff riders and first aiders will also be on hand.
Entry costs £28 and participants also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.
