iTS Leadership to walk from Paddington to Paddington for Action Medical Research

Updated:

A team from iTS Leadership in Bearsted are preparing for a 15-mile sponsored walk through central London for a UK-wide children’s charity.

They will be following the route of the London Underground Circle Line from Paddington back to Paddington as part of a bid to raise at least £2,500 for Action Medical Research, Paddington BearTM’s favourite UK charity.

Kirstie Tinker, who runs iTS Leadership with her husband Antony, says it made sense to take inspiration from the charity’s official mascot for their first challenge.

“We support a charity each year and Action Medical Research are our chosen charity for 2016 so we’re going to hold one fundraising event each quarter and thought we’d start off with this walk in honour of the charity’s mascot Paddington Bear,” says Kirstie.

Paddington has been at the heart of fundraising for Action Medical Research ever since his creator, Michael Bond, met the charity’s founder, Duncan Guthrie, in 1976 and his friendly face has helped to attract thousands of new supporters who together have raised millions of pounds to help babies and children.

A group of staff will be joined by some of their children aged between 12 and 18 to follow the Circle Line’s route overground on Sunday, 17 April, taking in Victoria, King’s Cross and Liverpool Street.

“It’s going to be a fun walk with different age groups and different abilities and we’re all looking forward to it,” adds Kirstie.

With the help of its supporters, Action Medical Research has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952, including the development of the first UK polio vaccines and the use of ultrasound in pregnancy.

It is currently funding research into meningitis, Down syndrome, epilepsy and premature birth, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
