Join the fun and celebrate Paddington Bear’s birthday

20 June 2014

Children’s charity, Action Medical Research is calling on the nation to help celebrate its mascot’s birthday later this month. Paddington™, the lovable furry friend from all our childhoods, celebrates his summer birthday on Wednesday 25 June this year.

There are two ways that people can get involved and help ensure that Paddington receives lots of love and attention this birthday. Action Medical Research will be running a quiz on key facts about Paddington’s favourite UK charity from Monday 23 June until Sunday 29 June. Everyone who answers the questions correctly will be entered into a prize draw to win a set of Paddington Bear books signed by their author, Michael Bond *.

Action Medical Research will also be running a ‘My bear and me’ selfie campaign on social media. The charity is asking people to take a snap of themselves with their own or their child’s favourite teddy bear and to post it to Twitter with the hashtags #Selfie and #HappyBirthdayPaddington. Two lucky winners chosen at random will receive a large Paddington cuddly toy signed by the charity’s ambassador, TV presenter Davina McCall *.

Sarah Moss, Director of Communications, Action Medical Research, says: “Paddington Bear has been involved with Action for nearly 40 years and his well known face has helped us raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to fund medical research for sick babies and children. We would love for the UK to get involved and show our charity mascot how much we all cherish him, particularly with his first ever live action film due out in November this year.”

Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around premature birth, Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, and diabetes, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
