Join the girls for new DIVA100 Scotland ride
Children’s charity launches bike ride for women
Children’s charity Action Medical Research is looking for ladies to sign up for its new DIVA100 Scotland bike ride on Sunday 20 May.
The ride sets out from Kincardine and takes in the quiet country lanes of the Kingdom of Fife, with a choice of two circular routes – a 100km challenge or a shorter 50km course for those looking to take it a little bit easier.
Supported by leading bike brand Trek, the routes take in some of the best scenery that is unique to Scotland. Highlights include the ancient burgh of Culross, with its period houses that line the partially cobbled streets, and breathtaking views of Loch Leven.
Cyclists participating in the DIVA100 Scotland ride raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012 and has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth and some very rare conditions that severely affect children.
Janet Balcombe, event organiser from Action Medical Research, says: “We hope lots of ladies will join us for our first DIVA100 Scotland bike ride. It’s suitable for all cycling abilities and promises a fantastic day out with a great atmosphere, lots of support and beautiful scenery along the route. Most importantly, every mile pedalled will help sick babies and children.”
The ride is fully supported with plenty of rest stops and a fully-serviced lunch. Staff riders, first aiders and massage therapists will also be on hand.
Entry costs £28 and participants will also need to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.

Action Medical Research - the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children - is celebrating 60 years of vital research in 2012. We’ve been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 and have spent more than £100 million on research that has helped save thousands of children’s lives and changed many more. Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:
• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
But there is still so much more to do. Make 2012 a special year and help fund more life-changing research for some of the UK’s sickest babies and children.
Action Medical Research has more than 30 years experience in organising successful bike rides. Routes are monitored and clearly signposted. Snack and lunch stops are provided and medical and mechanical staff are on hand at all times.
The DIVA100 series is supported by Trek Bicycle, a global leader in the design and manufacture of bicycles and related products. Trek believes the bicycle can be a simple solution to many of the world’s most complex problems, and is committed to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from using bicycles more often for transportation, recreation, and inspiration.
