Liz Yelling supports children’s charity event Mums on the Run 5k
Double Olympian Liz Yelling is encouraging mums to join the Mums on the Run 5k for children’s charity Action Medical Research on 16 September. Liz is a mum herself, and a supporter of the charity’s work around tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies.
Liz says, "What a fantastic way to get together at such a scenic location, have fun and most importantly get fit! Come on all you ladies, lets all get out there and support the fantastic work of Action Medical Research!"
An acclaimed marathon runner, Yelling has put together training tips and advice, aimed specifically to help mums complete the 5k run. http://www.action.org.uk/sites/default/files/downloads/events/mums/liz_yelling_tips.pdf
The run is open to all women - mothers or not, and will take a scenic route through the gardens and surrounding grounds of beautiful Waddesdon Manor country house in Buckinghamshire. The location also has a woodland playground, gardens and an aviary which the whole family can enjoy as they cheer on the runners. The charity’s mascot Paddington Bear will also be at the event to entertain younger supporters!
The run will raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. This year Action Medical Research celebrates 60 years of vital research.
The charity is currently supporting work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth and some very rare conditions that severely affect children.
Registrations fees are £20 and participants will also need to commit to raise a minimum sponsorship of £60 - £1 for each of Action Medical Research’s 60 years!

Action Medical Research - the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children - is celebrating 60 years of vital research in 2012. We’ve been funding medical breakthroughs since we began in 1952 and have spent more than £100 million on research that has helped save thousands of children’s lives and changed many more. Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:
• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
But there is still so much more to do. Make 2012 a special year and help fund more life-changing research for some of the UK’s sickest babies and children.
