Lunch with a Lift: Record amount raised at Davina's fundraiser
TV personality Davina McCall hosted her eighth ‘Dine with Davina’ fundraising lunch on Friday 7 November and raised an amazing £33,000 for her favourite children’s charity, Action Medical Research.
The sell-out event, sponsored by Next, brought 400 local ladies to the De Vere Grand Harbour Hotel, who always host the event and who kindly offered them welcome drinks as the fun and fine dining commenced!
Local DJ Steve Power presenter of Wave 105’s breakfast show, acted as MC and Hampshire-based auctioneer John Cameron, expert presenter on BBC shows Cash in the Attic and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, led the charity auction – which this year raised £12,300 from a variety of wonderful items. These included six PADDINGTON™ World Premiere tickets (Paddington is Action Medical Research’s mascot) and two pairs of tickets for Spandau Ballet live at The 02, including a meet and greet with Tony Hadley. £2,000 was also raised from the Diamond Draw when one lucky lady won a beautiful diamond pendant donated by Parkhouse, Hampshire.
Davina, who has supported the charity for many years, said: “What an amazing record year! Not only did the 400 ladies have a fantastic afternoon at Dine with Davina but they also helped raise a staggering £33k for my favourite children’s charity Action Medical Research. Well done everyone and what a great way to spend the afternoon!!”
Leigh-Beth Stroud, Community Fundraiser at Action Medical Research, said: “What a wonderful day it was from the moment every one arrived at noon until the last person departed at 6.30pm. This has been a bumper year for Dine with Davina and thanks to all the lovely ladies (and a few gents) who came to help support the charity, the sponsors and the organising committee. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
Dine with Davina is supported throughout the year by a team of local business ladies who help with promotion, secure some fantastic auction prizes, sell advertising space in the souvenir programme and generally ensure the event is a huge success. The provisional date for next year’s Dine with Davina is 6 November 2015. To reserve your table please contact Leigh-Beth Stroud on Tel: 01403 243959. Email: email@example.com
If you’d like to join Davina before then, she will be hosting her annual Big Sussex bike ride on 7 June 2015. For more information please click here http://www.action.org.uk/davinas-big-sussex-bike-ride
