Order in the House!

Life Peer set to speak at this year’s Aberdeen Ladies’ Lunch

Over 350 ladies are due to attend the annual fundraising lunch for children’s charity Action Medical Research on Friday 24 March 2015 at the new venue of the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel and Spa. This is the 18th year that the event has been running and the first time in its new location.  Many women attend year-on-year, as they enjoy getting together over a drinks reception and two course lunch, and have a lot of fun raising money to fund research to help sick and disabled babies and children.

The speaker this year is Lady Annabel Goldie, who, in a remarkable career, marked by her warmth, wit and common-sense approach, is perhaps best recognised as the former leader of the Scottish Conservative party.  Regularly on her feet in the Scottish Parliament she may have been considered by some to be a veritable thorn in the side of her adversaries until she stood down in November 2011.  Unsurprisingly, to mark her achievements in her chosen career, she was created a House of Lords peer in 2013, when she became Baroness Goldie of Bishopton.

Needless to say, Lady Goldie is an experienced orator with a dry sense of humour and not averse to poking fun whilst recounting the many extraordinary moments in a life filled by her passions and politics.

Community Fundraising Manager Janet Balcombe said, “Leading a life in the full glare of public scrutiny, she manages to remain, in many ways, a very private person. We look forward to welcoming Lady Goldie to our lunch in the hope of getting to know her better.”

For those who wish to continue the fun after the event, there is a raffle and a star-prize draw with the opportunity of winning a week for six people in a luxury apartment donated by Boath Stables.

Action Medical Research is currently supporting work in Scotland around autism, breathing difficulties, cataracts, asthma and neuroblastoma (a type of cancer). For more information on the event and tickets (priced £36) please contact Janet Balcombe Tel: 01505 8464334 E: janet@action.org.uk
