Paddington urges schools and nurseries to take part in Bring your Bear event
Paddington Bear is encouraging primary schools, nurseries and children’s groups across the UK to register to take part in his annual Bring your Bear event this summer to raise vital funds for his favourite children’s charity, Action Medical Research.
The Bring your Bear concept is simple and fun. Just choose a day from May onwards when the children bring their teddy bear, or a favourite soft toy, along with them for the day. Each child brings in a pound or two with their bear to support vital research to help babies and children.
Every school, nursery or group that registers will receive a fantastic free fundraising kit, filled with all the resources needed to run a fun-filled Bring your Bear event, including ideas for extra activities and plenty of Paddington Bear stickers – a real favourite with the children. There are also activity sheets to download and use from the Bring your Bear website to link the event to lesson plans for either Key Stages One and Two or the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Many Bring your Bear participants organise a whole day of fun, such as reading Paddington stories and holding a teddy bears’ picnic where, of course, the children eat Paddington’s favourite – marmalade sandwiches!
Lizzy Chapman, Bring your Bear event manager at Action Medical Research says: “Every child has a favourite bear and our Bring your Bear event is an exciting way for schools to make a real difference to other children. It’s very special but very easy to do and helps us fund research to reduce the suffering of babies, children and their families caused by disease and disability.”

Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide medical research charity dedicated to helping babies and children. We know that medical research can save and change children’s lives. For nearly 60 years we have been instrumental in significant medical breakthroughs, including the development of the UK polio vaccine and ultrasound scanning in pregnancy.
Today, we continue to find and fund the very best medical research to help stop the suffering of babies and children caused by disease and disability. We want to make a difference in:
• tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies
• helping children affected by disability, disabling conditions and infections
• targeting rare diseases that together severely affect many forgotten children.
