Pedalling for pounds: accountants take on charity cycle challenge
A team of staff from accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Bristol and Cardiff offices will swap number-crunching for cycling when they take on the Bath 100 bike ride to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research on Sunday 14 April.
The group of 12 will be counting down the miles when they take on the event’s ‘classic’ route, which is 60 miles long, while a few hardy team members will tackle a tougher ‘champion’ route of 102 miles. The ride starts and finishes at Bath Racecourse and also offers a shorter ‘cool’ route of 31 miles. The routes pass through the historic city centre before heading out into quiet country lanes and picturesque villages on the southern fringes of the Cotswolds.
Team member Colin Davis said: “We were looking for a challenge that would push us all out of our comfort zone and give us something to motivate us through the cold, dark winter. Training has given us a way to meet new people and get to know our colleagues better while also doing something to help others that are less privileged than us. Action Medical Research is a great charity to support as they strive to help save and change the lives of sick and disabled children.”
The team’s fundraising efforts will be boosted by additional support from PwC.
Money raised by cyclists participating in the Bath 100 will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research is currently supporting work around Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell disease and diabetes, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
The Bath 100 is part of the charity’s RIDE100 series which is supported by leading bike brand Trek. All rides include food and water stations, chip timing, marshals and mechanics.
