Peter James Golf Classic raises over £11,000 for children’s charity
The fifth Peter James Golf Classic, held at Haywards Heath Golf Club, has raised more than £11,000 for Sussex-based children’s charity Action Medical Research.
The event was hosted by best-selling crime author Peter James, who presented the prizes. 33 teams of four took part with the top prize, worth £400, being won by the Spragg’s Spellfund Spreaders comprising of Peter Spraggs, Rupert Labrum, Bob Sully and Alan Atkinson.
Other spot prizes included the longest drive and the much coveted hole-in-one on the 17th par-3, which would have won a car. Sadly no one achieved the hole-in-one and the prize will hopefully be carried forward to next year’s event!
The day was made possible thanks to many generous sponsors and donors, including motor dealer Harwoods Group who displayed a Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Audi at the event. Thanks go also to the teams and supporters who contributed to the raffle and auction. Peter James once again offered the chance for individuals or companies to be mentioned in his next novel in return for a £1,000 donation to the charity, for which two donations were received.
The event was organised by Bob Sansom, aided by wife Sandie and a team of helpers from the charity’s Haywards Heath and Lindfield Committee. Over the last five years it has raised more than £50,000 for the charity which funds vital medical research to help sick and disabled babies and children.
Action Medical Research has played a significant role in many medical breakthroughs for over 60 years, starting with the development of the first UK polio vaccines. It is currently funding research into many conditions, including preventing early labour and developing treatments for babies affected by premature birth, helping children with disabilities and tackling rare diseases for which there are currently no cures.
