RIDE24 a qualifying event for Race Across America contenders

13 June 2013

Race Across America (RAAM) hopefuls are reminded that RIDE24 remains one of the only UK events with qualifier status for solo riders looking to post a time to prove they are good enough to take on the world-famous ultra-endurance cycling race.

Operated under British Cycling technical regulations, RIDE24 is a 24-hour non-stop endurance cycle race. This year’s ride takes place at new venue the famous Thruxton Motor Circuit on Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 September.

The closed circuit event sees teams of four and large numbers of solo riders racing night and day to travel the greatest distance in 24 hours. The event is supported with a fully equipped rider village, with entrants kept fed and watered throughout and physios and bike mechanics on hand all day and night too.

RAAM is a non-stop, 3,000 mile, coast-to-coast ride, which usually takes at least eight days for the fittest and fastest riders to complete. Those looking to use RIDE24 as a qualifying event will need to cover a distance of at least 400 miles in the 24 hours in order to succeed.

RAAM’s Race Director, Fred Boethling says: “Riding for 24 hours non-stop should give solo participants a very small idea of what they will need to put themselves through should they brave the challenge of Race Across America!”

RIDE24 is organised by and raises money for Action Medical Research, a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

The winning RIDE24 four-person team will also secure themselves a free place in the 2014 French 24 Heures Velo at the legendary Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans, France.
