RIDE24: the ultimate team-building challenge

22 April 2013

“Harder than the ironman,” as a 2012 participant put it – RIDE24 is THE hardcore cycling challenge for 2013.

The original and best 24-hour non-stop endurance cycle race, RIDE24 is the ultimate team-building challenge for companies and other groups of friends and colleagues, and for those seeking an out-and-out challenge against their competitors. It will push everyone to their limits and will require team work, stamina, coordination and willpower.

Teams and individuals will be raising money for children’s charity Action Medical Research – a UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research.

Today in the UK, there are hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled children who need help! The charity is currently funding research into areas including Down syndrome, premature birth, epilepsy, meningitis and rare diseases.

RIDE24 will test your team’s ability to work together, bonding them over sweat, motivation and fun – from exhaustion to elation - unlike any other sportive or event that is over in just a few hours!

The British Cycling registered event will be held Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 September at Thruxton Motor Circuit – the fastest track in the UK. RIDE24 racers will take on the 2.4 mile smooth circuit, with its long sweeping bends, in a test of endurance, tactics and sheer determination.

The team with the most laps covered in 24 hours will win the coveted RIDE24 WINNERS TEAM title, held for two years by a team from the University of Birmingham. The winning team will also secure themselves a free place in the 2014 French 24 Heures Velo, at the Bugatti circuit in Le Mans.

Xavier Disley, captain of the RIDE24 reigning champions’ team from the University of Birmingham, says: “Having done the event twice now, the organisation and experience just keeps getting better and better. The friendly staff and other supportive competitors are definitely welcome when you're 17 hours in and really feeling the fatigue!"

Mark Trott, UK Cycling Development Manager for Action Medical Research, says: “RIDE24 brings together cyclists of all abilities with their own personal goals; some will be chasing the title of 'champions', others will be aiming for distance or simply just to survive! Taking part in the event nurtures great respect among the participants.”
