Suffolk’s biggest charity music festival raises £10,000

18 July 2014

Gig in the Garden music festival took place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July at Wicks Farm, Mendlesham, near Stowmarket. The two-day event, organised by children’s charity Action Medical Research raised over £10,000. Even the weather couldn’t dampen people’s spirits and festival-goers, performers and event volunteers all had a fantastic time and made sure the family event was even better than last year.

Lucy Hynes, Action Medical Research Community Fundraising Manager, commented: “The atmosphere at Gig in the Garden this year was electric! After a fantastic day of music and sunshine a massive electrical storm descended upon Suffolk and drew the evening to a wet yet spectacular finish, it was the ultimate light show! Sunday was mostly wet but local stars Polar Collective, Sunday’s headline band, brought the sunshine with them anyway. The weekend concluded with a large crowd dancing and singing their hearts out. We can’t wait till next year!”

Headline acts for the weekend included Queen tribute band The Bohemians and local superstars Polar Collective. Other local acts playing over the weekend included Horse Party, Elephant in the Room, Chasing Storms, Lost Lungs, Pinhead, El Pascal, The Wilsons, The Fern Tether Band, Heartacker, Gion Stump, Jade Dunno, Underline the Sky, Cathedral and Cars, Ollie Banks, Jo Bowleys and The Kettle Girls.

Thw weekend of music and fun activities was sponsored by Abbeygate Wealth Management and The English Curtain Company.

Money raised will help fund vital research for babies, children and young people. Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded. Action Medical Research is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
